Fast Cars
Fast cars have always been a thrill for the mankind since the day the first car named Benz Patent Motorwagen rolled out of its factory sheds in the year 1886.
Its speed then was a whopping 16 km/h (10 mph), and believe it, it was a head-spinning speed for the times that those ones were.
Today, as the years roll off, just after 122 years of the first car event on the planet, the record speed has reached as high as 412.28 km/h (256.18 mph) set by the model SSC Ultimate Aero TT.
The historical graph of this sharp rise in speed has been a real interesting one.
Starting from 1901, when the top speed of a production car Mercedes 35 hp was 85 km/h (53 mph), it came on to 160 km/h (100 mph) in 1921 by Bentley 3 Litre Super Sports.
Mercedes-Benz SSK Murphy Roadster crossed the 200km barrier by taking the speed to 210 km/h (130.5 mph) in the year 1929.
Then it took another 55 long years in order to cross the 300 km barrier, which was achieved by Ferrari 288 GTO in 1884 taking the highest speed to as high as 304 km/h (189 mph).
Bugatti Veyron on April 19, 2005 crossed the next 400km barrier taking the speed to 408.47 km/h (253.81 mph).
Last came the final blow on October 9, 2007 when Guinness World Records verified SSC Ultimate Aero TT as the fastest production car having a speed 412.28 km/h (256.18 mph) unmatched on the planet till date.
